David B. Parker

FOUNDING PARTNER

Mr. Parker is a founding partner of Parker Shaffie LLP. He is a recognized expert in the areas of: professional liability, including legal malpractice and ethics; business insurance, including Directors and Officers liability insurance, and lawyers professional liability insurance; and business litigation, including entertainment matters, corporate disputes among shareholders, liabilities of corporate officers and directors, derivative and class actions, and nonprofit litigation.

Mr. Parker was selected as one of the Daily Journal’s Top Professional Responsibility Lawyers for 2024, as well as among California’s “Super Lawyers” (2004 – 2023) and was identified among the “Top 100 Southern California Lawyers” (www.superlawyers.com) in 2009, 2011 – 2012, 2014 – 2017 and 2020, and as one of the leading experts on legal malpractice in “Who You Gonna Call?” in California Lawyer, p. 25 (February 2002) and “The Lawyers’ Lawyers” issue of the Daily Journal’s California Law Business (November 30, 1998) in an article entitled “The Malpractice Practice” by Pearl J. Piatt. He a Martindale-Hubbell “AV Preeminent Peer Review Rated” lawyer, the highest designation possible.

Mr. Parker was a founding member of, and senior partner at Lewis, D’Amato, Brisbois & Bisgaard until departing in 1995 to form this firm.

Mr. Parker graduated Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1972, where he also obtained his law degree in 1976, graduating Order of the Coif, and serving as the Associate Editor of the UCLA Law Review.

Mr. Parker was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1976 and is admitted to practice before all of the state courts in California, the United States District Courts in California and Hawaii, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He has tried dozens of jury and non-jury trials and arbitrations. He has acted as the principal attorney in numerous reported decisions in the State and Federal appellate courts and has served numerous times as an expert witness and consultant in his areas of expertise.

Mr. Parker has authored numerous publications, and has frequently lectured in his areas of expertise, in public and private seminars, for law firms, for legal departments, for bar associations, and for other professional and business groups. Mr. Parker is actively recruited to speak at events sponsored by the American Bar Association, the California State Bar, many local bar associations, and by virtually all of the major continuing legal education providers in California.

Mr. Parker is a former a member of the State Bar’s Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct and is a long time member and former chair of the Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. He is also a past member of the Board of Governors of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers in Los Angeles, and is a past Chair of the Errors & Omissions Prevention Committee and former member of the Professional Liability Insurance Committee of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Mr. Parker formerly served as a member of the California State Bar’s Standing Committee on Mandatory Fee Arbitrations, and served for ten years on the Discipline Committee for the US District Court for the Central District of California.

Mr. Parker is active in the community. He has served for more than two decades as a member of the Board of the Directors and Board Secretary to the Scleroderma Foundation and currently sits on its Southern California Chapter. Mr. Parker also served for 10 years as a member of the Board of Trustees, and is Board Secretary, for Bridges Academy, Inc.
